Nick Barr

Nick is a radio personality who hosts and produces WAMC Bluegrass Time, which airs Saturday night from 10:00 to 11:00 P.M. Eastern time on WAMC Northeast Public Radio, a 24 station public radio network headquartered in Albany NY.   Go to http://www.wamc.org/ for more information about the network, to listen to Nick's show on-line and to see playlists for the show.

Nick also hosts a show called "Nick's Tape Treasures."  It features live recordings he made at shows and festivals in the 60's and 70's.  He donated the original reel-to-reel tapes to the International Bluegrass Music Museum (IBMM) in Owensboro KY.  He also made a digital copies of the tapes on CD; he gave one copy of these to the IBMM.  Using his copy of the CD's he has put together a two hour weekly show which airs on the IBMM's Internet Radio station, which is called Radio Bluegrass International (RBI), and can be accessed at www.bluegrassmuseum.org.  The show airs on RBI Saturdays at 11:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M. Eastern.

Nick is also an accomplished musician.  He plays mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, guitar and 5-string banjo.  He sings lead and harmony vocals.  He has played with many bands in the Albany NY area (and New Haven CT area prior to 1970).  He has played with nationally known musicians, including Frank Wakefield, Vern & Ray, Walter Hensley and the Dukes of Bluegrass, Lee Moore, Charlie Moore, Charlie Louvin and the Hager Twins.

Nick is also an experienced Master of Ceremonies.  He has MC'ed at many bluegrass shows and festivals throughout the Northeast, as well as festivals in Maryland, Florida,  Tennessee, Kentucky and Colorado.  He has also been stage manager at many events.

He has written articles for Bluegrass Unlimited, Bluegrass Now and Acoustic Musician.  His photographs have also been used.

He is a lifetime gold member of the IBMM; go to http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org for more information. In addition to hosting Nick's Tape treasures, he has made many donations of money and artifacts to the IBMM. He is a lifetime member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).  Visit www.ibma.org for more information.   He was a member of the 2006 class of IBMA's Leadership Bluegrass program. He is a member of the Country Music Association, the Recording Academy (Grammies), the North American Folk Alliance and several local bluegrass or country music associations.  The North East Country Music Association named him "Radio DJ of the Year" in 2001 and 2002 and awarded him the distinguished Pioneer Award in 2005.  He was inducted into the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
