Nick Barr

Nick is a radio personality who hosts and produces Bluegrass Time on Performance Place, which airs Monday mornings at 11:30 A. M. Eastern time on WAMC Northeast Public Radio, a 22 station public radio network headquartered in Albany NY.   Go to http://www.wamc.org/ for more information about the network and to see playlists for the show.

Nick is also an accomplished musician.  He plays mandolin, fiddle, upright bass, guitar and 5-string banjo.  He sings lead and harmony vocals.  He has played with many bands in the Albany NY area (and New Haven CT area prior to 1970).  He has played with nationally known musicians, including Frank Wakefield, Vern & Ray, Walter Hensley and the Dukes of Bluegrass, Lee Moore, Charlie Moore, Charlie Louvin and the Hager Twins.

Nick is also an experienced Master of Ceremonies.  He has MC'ed at many bluegrass shows and festivals throughout the Northeast, as well as festivals in Maryland, Florida,  Tennessee, Kentucky and Colorado.  He has also been stage manager at many events.

He has written articles for Bluegrass Unlimited, Bluegrass Now and Acoustic Musician.  His photographs have also been used.

He is a lifetime member of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA).  Visit www.ibma.org for more information.  He is a lifetime gold member of the International Bluegrass Music Museum (IBMM); go to http://www.bluegrassmuseum.org for more information.  He has made many contributions to the IBMM.  He was a member of the 2006 class of IBMA's Leadership Bluegrass program. He is a member of the Country Music Association, the Recording Academy (Grammies), and several local bluegrass or country music associations.  The North East Country Music Association named him "Radio DJ of the Year" in 2001 and 2002 and awarded him the distinguished Pioneer Award in 2005.  He was inducted into the New York State Country Music Hall of Fame in 2000.
